royal gramma

Has anyone out there had long term success in keeping royal grammas? I know they tend to be more on the delicate side. My royal didn't last more than three days although he was eating great(varied diet), no one was picking on him, water conditions were good, and he had plenty of hiding spots(found him stuck in my prefilter-dead). Don't figure? I usually don't hear too much about this fish.

I had a one inch fry that was doing fine until my coral banded dug him out of his hiding place and ATE him.

O.K. thats what I thought. I threw in that "delicate" just to cover my bases. This was the second one that didn't last for more than 2 1/2 days in my tank. I told the guy at my lfs and he was surprised. Ya know these little fishies can start to add up. We'll see what happens if I try again. 2 grammas from the same store (the biggest marine fish store in my area). do I go for strike 3?

I'd wait till he gets a new batch of fish in To be safe,or go to a diff store. You know what they say" bigger is not allways better".STEVE

I must agree with Mr. Salty as far as bigger is not always better. The larger fish store that we have seems to just stock fish that they want to sell, overcrowd their tanks, and the survival of the fish are almost nil. I go to a smaller store that is always willing to help and seems to get a selection of good quality of fish. I would also say try another store.

Corky,
Have you checked the salinity during the acclimation process? Sometimes people acclimate and assume that since the bag is now full of water to just dump the fish in. I've had salinity levels as low as 1.015 that took over an hour to acclimate up to 1.023 which is where my tank is. Just a thought. Everyone else seemed to cover the other bases.
