running carbon

whats the best way to run carbon. Ive heard of using it only once a month for a 24hr period, and ive heard of people using it 24/7. Also what methods do you use to run it?

yea i hear the same thing and wondering that myself.

Run it when you want to polish your water....When you want to. People with Aggresive set ups will run it 24/7 in a filter to keep the water cleaned up. People with Reef Set-Ups, don't use carbon at all, unless to polish water, and then they use it when they visually think its necessary.

I use it all the time and have not seen any adverse effects. I change it often though to help it absorb more. Plus, I do weekly water changes, so even if it is taking out a small fraction of trace elements, they are replaced quickly.

I run it for a week straight every other week not only to help clear the water but for water circulation in my tank.

ive used it 24/7, then my toadstools polyps wouldnt come out so i fragged it and unplugged my filter and now everything does better???so i dont use it anymore
