can i keep a russells lion in a 55 gallon tank by itself? i think that it gets by on the 1 inch per five gallond rule. Also can i keep another smaller fish like a watchman or engineer goby?

yeah i was but i found a 55 gallon and stand for what is considered cheap in my area and my friend is upgrading his skimmer so i am probably going to get it from him and then when i get the 55 i won't have to look for one. The 29 was like 95 $ and the 55 was 125 so i figured that this was a much better deal.

I wouldnt do anymore than just that one lion. That might be pushing it, and especially not an eel. If anything, maybe another type of scorpion, cuz they are usually compatible. A 55 just seems too small to house a russels for life though...

Yer friends tank is probably gonna implode soon. See, people dont understand it isnt size, it is the biological output. They seem small, but the amount of food that they consume and then transfer as waste back into the envronment is harmful. A russels lion is NOT small, and a full grown one, although smaller than a volitan, is still too big to be kept in a 55 gallon with any other tank mates, and like i said, id feel uncomfortable keeping a russels in a 55. It isnt very wide, and they will feel cramped wen they spread their fins out. So, if u REALLY need a russels, and only have a 55 gallon, then it should just be that one fish, or else u can get a dwarf lion and an eel and something else, and be pushing it with that combo.

Although I kept a Russels for quite some time solo in a 55g, I would not reccomend it.
I am convinced it only worked thanks to RO/DI water, UV sterilizer, wet-dry, skimmer, and too much maintenance. Put the Russels in a larger tank or buy a dwarf lion if you don't want to do a lot of constant maintenance.
Not gonna flat out tell you it won't work, because it worked for me, but it's just not the best idea, esp if you want a couple of other aggressive fish in there w/ higher bioloads.
