I am thinking about getting a dig. camera. I have it between to the nikon 3100 and the 4300. I can get the 3100 for $224 and the 4300 for $279. I want to be able to take good macros and still take good regular pictures. What is the pros and cons of these cameras?? Is it worth the extra money to get the 4300?? I don't plan on printing anything over 8.5 X 11 at the largest(very few printed that large). most of my printing will be with 5 X 7. Let me know. Thanks for the info!!!

I would look into www.dpreview.com for some better options. The Nikon 4300 isn't very good at all when it comes to macro. You have to stay a minimum of 11.8 inches away from the subject. Thumbs down.
The coolpix 3100 isn't all that bad. Good macro to it.

This is just me, but I am a HUGE fan of Sony. Look at what they have. There is just about everything there. Just DO NOT get a Kodak. I have a CX4300, and it's feces. :D Well, maybe not that bad, but for $100 for 3.2 megapixels a year ago, how could I have gone wrong? It's just really picky when it comes to taking pictures.. Some turn out blurry, other's are sharp as can be, and the memory access is REALLY slow. I have to wait about 10-20 seconds between pictures, sometimes maybe even longer. Grrr.... And when taking pics of fish, that's not a good thing at all. The macro on it isn't that good, either. But, I'm a poor college student.

I have a cannon A70 and love it. It has lots of features (which I haven't figured out yet) but does great point and shoot too. One thing about it though... no power cord, strictly batteries.

On any of these cameras that have been talked about in all the threads the last couple of days. Can the shutter speeds be adjusted while the flash is off?

Most cameras that can be adjusted manually can have the shutter speeds changed while the flash is off. The Canon A70 can for sure.......what other models were you curious about?

Well I went out and bought the A70. Just seemed to fit the budget at $299 and I'm taking Ryes advice along with that. Plus I'm a Cannon guy myself ;) It seems to have all the features of my Cannon Rebal G 2000 35mmSLR too. Which i really never did find out how to use to its potential.lol. I was thinking about the G3 but couldn't find a store carrying it plus a internet search shows it still to be selling near $500. I'll toy with this for awhile and save for that Digital SLR I've been wanting :D
