Ryebread questions for ya?

I'm looking in the next couple of weeks to buy a new digital camera. What features should I be looking for in a camera? Is optical zoom more important than digital zoom? I want something under $800. I want to be able to take good close up shots, as well as something that takes good underwater pics. I was thinking something in the 3.2 MP, or better range. Not sure if it's appropriate to ask, but do you sale camera's? One camera I'm looking at is the sea & sea dx 3000. The only reason I'm looking at this camera is because I already have a sea & sea 35 mm with all the bells, and whistles, and from what I understand all my accessories are interchangable between the 2 cameras.

Hey Stacy-
Sea and Sea are great cameras.......I like them quite a bit. Having said that- I probably wouldn't buy the digital version. I would look more into finding a nice digital camera and then getting a nice underwater housing for it.......they make em for almost anything. People really seem to like the Canon series cameras with underwater housing combos.....I don't have personal experience so, I am just going off of what customers have said. I do run a camera shop myself but, we don't deal a whole lot in Sea and Sea around the Cincinnati area. ;)
I know that you are looking for about the 3.2 megapixel range but, I would consider checking into a little better model.
Possibly the Canon Powershot S45 or S50. Canon G3 is good also.
Nikon Coolpix 4500
Minolta Dimage Xi (very small with neat little underwater housings)
Might want to check out www.digideep.com or www.ikelite.com for some possibilities.
Good luck.........let me know if you need help.

I've been using a sony dsc-p9, but when I zoom in it doesn't seem to take very good pics. The 2nd camera that I was looking at was the canon s50 or s45. How do these cameras fair as far as closeup shots? They are compariable in price to the Sony, and they have a really nice underwater housing.

i have a canon powershot 290. the pic quality is pretty good, the pic options are good, but it delays a little bit when you take the pic, so the fish could swim away after the pic is taken.
