I believe that the Canon A70 can take some accessory lenses and it's cheaper....I'm sure there are some other differences but, not having personal experience with them I can't really say.
I just bought the A70 to bring underway with me and here is a picture I took. Thought the picture came out real well, don't have any close ups at this point, but the camera seems real nice, am waiting to buy a G5 though for home use.
Well in that price range would there be any other cameras I should look at?
Do you think there is that much difference between the 3.2m to the 4 cameras to justify the price? I've always just used point-and-shoot cameras.
Thanks for the compliments, I really like that picture and hope to get more like it. Daniel411, I believe it has macro, no add ons. I'm still playing with it and will try and take some macros and see what happens.
OK, here's my attempts at macro. One is my dog and the other is some piece of something of my wife's. I messed up on the lighting but hopefully you get the idea.

Ryebread or others,
One more thing, is "macro" an integral part of the camera or is it just a different lense?
Macro is built in to most of the digitals......it's simply the close-focusing mode. Macro is usually indicated by a flower symbol.

The Stylus 300 is a very nice little camera.....very durable too. The macro mode is good for about 8".
I'm a recent convert, I was on the Georgia and after a medical disqualification am now on the Roosevelt. Very different having to stay above the surface.
