S.G. for hypo treatment

I have been reading that you need to lower SG to 1.014 for a hypo treament, but I have read posts that have it at 1.009 ?! is this too low or is 1.o14 not low enough. What is the proper level?

I have just had my 1st experience with hypo and I took it down to 1.009 and now a week later my fish looks much healthier. HTH

It's unfortunate how much BAD-info is out there. What is more unfortunate is that I got my info from a well know aquarium magazine:eek: Guess they didn't do their homework.

I am a little confused,, I just started Hypo last might and am using a swing arm hydrometer to measure salinty which is at 1.016 now. Do I need to get the refractometer instead and where can I find one,, I just called my pet store and they dont carry them.

I just found one with PetSolutions for $170 and he said that was the normal price and all they had.. any other suggestions?
