Well it happend my lobster claimed his first casulty last night...last night I saw my Eel on its side and he was swollen midway fron his neck to the middle of his body like if he had eaten a pig he was breathing but could not move much I have no idea what happend to him or why he was swollen like that...well this morning I wake up and I see the lobster with half the Eels body in its mouth..now here is my question when I pulled the Eel out the tank there was nothing inside him the swollen part of his body was all water it was like emptying out a bag of water almost like if he was drowning..here is the question could the lobster have done something to him to paralize him and make him drown or how the hell did his body get full of water to make him look like he swallowed something large? I loved my Eel he has been with me since day one also my tang is eating the tube of the Feather duster is this normal, and yes they are being feed everyday so there not starving..can someone enlighten me? and sorry for the long post but I had to vent:mad:

I had a purple lobster kill a 12" panther grouper a few years back.... The grouper kept going into the lobster den... the lobster would rub his antenas on the groupers eyes and face and after a few weeks of this the groupers eyes and face were rubbed raw... it was the weirdest thing I have ever seen.. the grouper would do this for hours, almost as if he was in a trance... then one day the grouper was dead becuase of the injuries... his face was nasty... totally bizarre..

my tang kept nipping at my feather duster too. Finally the duster jumped out and the tang ate a hole right through the tube. My LFS looked at me like I was crazy when I told them what happened. Sorry about your eel.

Are these lobstors anything like freshwater crayfish?
I have kept the FW crayfish for a while, and if it is, i may have an explanation..
I believe lobstors are scavangers. They are oppotunists.
Is it possible that your snowflake eel had injured himself, or been attacked by something else? If so, then i think the lobstor (if anything like the crayfish) would of had a go at the eel.
Again, if the lobstor is anything like the Crayfish, if the eel came in the lobstairs lair (which is a strong possibilty, as SFE naturally eat inverts), i believe the lobstor what have tried to save itself by any means neccisarry. And with those claws, he could of definatly done some damage.
Splash - the lobstor was most probably sizing the grouper up. as for it having a damaged face - thats a mystery to me..
James.
