Saddle Valentini Puffer

Hello all! Tank is beautifully cycled, little bit of algae, copepods crawling on the glass, my tank is now alive!!! Anywho, did the water change yesterday, I have a true percula in my 20 high. He is very happy.
Well, I think I am ready for the next fish, Saddle Valentini Puffer. I originally didn't want a puffer but I saw one healthy at the LFS, its really really small. Well my question is, I have about 6 really small cleaner hermit crabs, would they not get along too well? I am putting my money on that they won't. But what would an alternative be to keeping the tank clean? Right now I got excellent flow so the food I feed won't settle, and perform regular water changes.
I'm not interested in hearing advice on the size of the tank, if he outgrows, he goes. Alot of places say minimum 30, but 20 will do for now. Thanks in advance for responses

IMO it will just make a meal of your hermit crabs.

yea, i figured that, but if that were the case, how do people keep their tank "naturally" clean without a clean up crew? just don't overfeed them?? good flow??

I have a valentini. Mine does not touch any inverts..snails, hermits, shrimp...the potential is there with any puffer...just sharing my experience with my valentini. Close to the two year mark with it now. great little fish. I find most of the time if the inverts are in before the fish they have a much greater chance. Anything added after is immediately thought to be food.

They get big enough to eat the hermit crabs?
Yeah they could. Mine is only about 2" perhaps a little less but it has some teeth on it
. They could pick them apart.

lol, I know you posted it just before me. They only get like 4" right?
Yeah, they don't get that big. I have only seen a couple get to that size (4"), IME they are usually seen in the 2-3" range.

Yeah, that would work.

my small valentini never touched hermits or my fire shrimp. when they are tiny their peaks are just too small to do anything with them. You will have plenty of time if by small you meanan 1-1.5"
