There was mention that salifert was going to include a reference sample with new kits so that you would have a base point.
As for how much they were off, it was really random, but I think that most people were getting high false readings. I switched over to LaMott, a little more complicated, but once you get the routine down it's no big deal.

I keep getting WAY SUPER high Alkalinity readings as well! I've tried 3 Salifert tests and they ALL show the tank being off the charts! So, I'll check out the forums on -- as well (if I can find it)...

I can't count how many people who all of a sudden started to have off the wall dKH readings with the Salifert Kits.
I gave up Salifert, they kinda lost a lof of respect with how they've handled this, they created a lot of excuses, tried to blame anything and everything other than the test kits. Blamed salt mixes, customer testing procedures etc.... Then they made the statement that only "A Few dozen" kits were contaminated, I know of 20-30 people who's kits were junk, took them several months to admitt that there was a problem and to take corrective action.

Do you think it would be a good choice to buy Salifert again? Or would you reccomend LaMott instead?

last I heard was that Salifert was going to include a reference sample with the kits, I honestly don't know if they have actually resolved the problem.
As far as using Salifert again, probably not going to happen as I'm totally happy with the LaMott kits, the readings are exact, you can do the test 4-5 times on the same water batch and the readings are incredibly consistent....Now I'm a dedicated LaMotte fan....Worth the few dollars more IMO.....Here's the best part about the LaMotte kits, you can call the tech support # and talk to an actual human if you have ANY questions about the kits.......... I had some questions about the dKH kit and conversion to aquarium readings, the guy answered my questions and gave me even more advice than I asked for.....Salifert Doesn't offer this free service
, LaMotte does

.
Ever wonder why Salifert has no email contact information, no US phone #, heck they don't even publish the salifert.com website on their products. Even the Salifert website doesn't have a "contact us" link,...... It's almost like they don't want you calling or emailing them, buy our product but leave us alone kind thing

maxalmon, I agree with the Lamotte Alk kit, far easier to use. The Lamotte Ca kit you can have, I will stick with Salifert on this one. I do like the Lamotte Nitrate test kit better as well. Refill kits are really reasonable for the Lamotte kits. The initial kits are pretty high but refills

Here are the CA kit instructions - Freshwater converted to Marine - Hate it -lol (See step 2 saltwater)
http://lamotte.com/pages/common/pdf/instruct/3609.pdf
Here is a list of all their instructions.

Nitrate kit number is 3110
ALK kit number 4491-DR

Is there anything wrong with the API test kits? Just curious cuz I rarely see them mentioned.

I know, the Ca kit seems a lot more difficult, but once you've performed the test a few times it becomes really simple....

I must be untrainable.... I have used it about six times and four of the six, I added the tank water instead of RO. I was using RO instead of the called for distilled water to dilute with. It was retired right after the last time....

LOL....Yeah...The LaMotte kits have a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, doesn't take any longer than the Salifert kits
