Sally Molt or Dead?

I know the question has been asked many times but I'm missing a time frame. How long before a molted Sally Lightfoot Crab reappears in the tank? It's been 4 days and I havent seen him at all and was wondering if the molt was actually him being dead. The other fish, hermit crabs, and snails are fine...levels are good. Any thoughts?

I've had inverts pull a Houdini on me for weeks on end. Some folks claim months in their experiences. They generally stay hidden for a bit after a molt because the exoskeleton is still soft so they are more vulnerable.

Thanks! That's encouraging.

He's still not anywhere to be found :(

I'm holding out hope.

Hi,

All inverts hide after a molt. Moonlights are great for spotting your crabs and such...many learn to only come out at night for hunting the yummy copepods and such. My Sally disappeared for months, and I thought it was dead, I figure that when it went into hiding, it just found out that deep in the rocks was where the food was, and had no reason to emerge until dark. Same with brittle and serpent stars, they are there, you just don't see them.
