What to do. What to do. Do i just clean it up and throw it away or is it safe to scrape back into the tank and just check salinity levels??

i just put it back into the tank. If it came out of the tank then it should be ok just yo put it back. make sure that you do not have a leak somewhere. The very top of my ank had a slow leak, i just lowered the water level and bam no more problem

you reallly should get rid of it, it is safe for the water system, but dry salt particles can burn your fish

Yeah try holding the salt creep in your hand and then hold it under water in the sink or a bucket. It can heat up quite a bit, and you don't have it on your delicate gills!

well said krux, salt is mineral(or metal) and chlorine based and the water oxydizes it which does create heat, especially in the minerals and chloride(ine or ate, can't remeber which is in salt), they oxydize very well
