wiped off,
adding the salt directly into the water can severly damage you fish
and inverts

Wiped off, that salt has gathered dust and all sorts off stuff that floats through the air( not saying your house is dirty). I just take a scott towel and wipe it off.

i think you get the salt creep from when you have evapration, so your water escapes. and leaves behind salt residue, or something, because your salinity should be going up and not down

yes i know that but as you add fresh water back up to the orignal level would the sg go down or would it be so little it doesnt matter

without getting into chemistry and what not, since i canot much, here is my observation on the issue
i have salt creep, and i top off my tank from time to time wiht fw, and i still have a salinity increase so, that every time i do a water change, i have to adjust my salinity down, or add more water to the tank befroe the change also
so i would think that soem does dissipate and most remains in the water

That's weird fshhub. You get a salinity increase even though you add fresh water to replace your evaporated water, and you wipe off the salt creep. That is really weird. I wonder where the extra salt's coming from.

probablyt from the fact that i am not adding the exact, down to the millileter amount that has evaporated
just topping off, till it looks good, and then i double check my salinity, i jsut guess at the level in the tank, i have no auto top off, so a 1/4 in or lesscould make a difference, especailly after 3 or 4 weeks(salinity does not move fast, maybe every several changes it is noticable, and still not even a 1/2 pt on the hydrometer)
