salt wont dissolve

Does anyone know why the salt in the new water I made up 2 days ago wont dissolve? I've never had this happen. Some of the salt keeps settling to the bottom of the bin. Thank you

What are you using to mix the water?

I always mix my water early in the morning and throw a heater and a powerhead in there to move it around. I've never had any problems with it not mixing. Maybe it's too cold?

I don't think the temp is the problem, unless you are using freezing cold water. Maybe you just got a bad batch. Regardless, you should remove that undissolved thats remaining with a net, cup or something. Test the water, if you need to add more salt you can.

I have had residue from my Reef Crystals that just won't dissolve, even after letting the powerhead and heater work in my mix buckets for a couple of days. Salt tests OK, temp is good, put it in the tank. Funny thing is, it doesn't always happen. Mosttimes, even from the same 5gal bucket of salt, everything will dissolve, but not always.

OK, science lesson.
maybe you added a little to much, and the solevent, the water, is not soluble anymore since the solute, the salt, was to much. raising the temp will make your water more soluble, therefore making your salt mix.
so basically, you added to much salt, and your water cant absorb anymore salt. raising the temp. will allow the water to absorb more.

I have mixed water in a cold room, during winter, without a heater, and it always mixed through. I think that there isn't any flow, but we shall wait for the OP.

How much salt are we talking about in the bottom of the bin? Have you tested the Sg?

A tiny bit in the middle of a whirlpool of PH power is nothing. Other people use reef crystals without issues.

I hope so. I switched because I have more corals now. But once the 5 gal. buckets showed up, I realized they are made by the same company. I hope this is not just an advertisement gimmick, and the -- does have more calcium.

Well, when you test you will find out. I hope that it works out for you!

Test have come back the same as far as salinity/salt. I only switched about two weeks ago, so I have been doing a 50/50 mixture so far. I have only done one water change with the mixture, but another is coming up soon. But the salt looks the same, buckets look the same. I did a lot of research on here, so I hope the -- has something a little extra to add.

salinity is 1.025. I'm thinking that maybe the water was cold when I mixed in the salt?? Maybe I should let the heater warm the water and then mix the salt in. Anyway, I dumped the water, I'm going to start fresh.
