Tropic Marin Pro Reef %% Do they make anything else?
Yep that is about as good as it gets....The PRO version stuff......
I am too cheap to use it though. I use Reef Crystals, which is not bad. Instant Ocean, if keeping corals is way too low on calcium from the bucket..... I think my Reef Crystals is basically the same as IO with more calcium added to the mix.
The one thing that I feel is more important that the kind of salt one uses, is not becoming too lazy and not doing partial changes often enough........Even great salt will not make up for too few or not enough PC's.

Can you mix salt mixes together? If Tropic Marin is the best and IO reef crystals is still good, could I jus tbuy half of each and use the mixture as the salt?

Mark the Tropic Marine PRO is the salt referred to in the postings. Not the regular TM.... I believe there is a considerable difference in price ..............

Tropic Marin PRO reef Salt-200gal bucket-$75
Instant Ocean Reef Crystals-160gal bucket-$44
Youre right. I was looking at the regular tropic marin. My mistake, but if you average in the extra 40gal offered by the tropic marin, the price of the reef crystals would be $55. So its a $20 difference really. I can see if you have a huge tank, or a bunch of tanks where you go through this in a quick period, i wouldnt see the need to go with the more expensive brand. If you have a 12g nano and only have to buy the salt once every year and a half (doing a 20% water change every week, 83 weeks going by the gallonage on the bucket. it will vary because of different salinity needs of course.) If that was the case, I would get the tropic marin. Other than that, I would think about getting the IO reef crystals and saving the extra money along the way. If the TMPRO is in fact better. Sorry for my rant
.
Nice catch.
Thanks.

I am current using an instant ocean normal, non reef, Mix. Where there be a downside, or effect, if i switch to that PRO reef salt?

i asked this question once too. seachem, reef crystals, and instant ocean surfaced the most.
I went with sea chem, it doesn't dissolve as nicely as the others. But it had the best mix of nutrients(probably why it didn't mix as fast).
Some people will swear by a brand, and call foul on another.
I also chose sea chem because it was told by a marine biolagist that they used that exclusivly in thier lab.
And the sea chem test kits were as close to those super duper expensive testing equipment in accuracy as you could buy on the open standard market.

The Georgia Aquarium, holding 8.1 million gallons of saltwater (reefs and whale sharks as the predominant attractions) uses Instant Ocean Se Salt. (1.5 milliom pounds of it.)

Yep that had been their big marketing thing for a long time now........ I think we have been down this road before here on the forum.....Heck I think I still have one of those free Tee-shirts they gave away years ago......
Ohhh the place Ralph and Norton used to live......
Don't get me wrong, The Aquarium is a good one, but the only reason they use IO is because of the marketing value. And by the way they have done they have done great research there too in trying to save the whale Sharks. It is apparently a really hard animal to keep in captivity for a long time.

One died, the other was euthanized after it started aimlessly swimming and showing signs of stress. They still have two females living in there.
