Those of you who do not have a chiller, how do you keep your tank temp under 80 degrees durring the hot summer days? I thought about freezing some of my tank water. When the tank gets close to 80 degrees, drop the ice cubes in. What do you think?

Not that I am any kind of expert, but have seen some ideas on this board. If you have a sump, then you can put "blue ice" which is in plastic into the sump. This way, the filtering water goes around it and cools the tank during circulation. There is also a DIY chiller "recipe" on here somewhere under the equipment board.
Not sure how putting ice cubes in the tank would work as far as creating "cold spots"...I haven't tried it on my FW tanks yet, and am just setting up a SW now. I'll probably encounter the same problem, as I'm from Dallas. That being said, what's your favorite LFS? Where did you get your LR? Livestock?

Adding these "salty ice cubes"will slowly increase the salinity in your tank. If you must use ice, just use regular ice ,and put them in a ziplock bag so you dont mess up the salinity. You can also freeze a plastic pop bottle and put it in. You really don't need to worry much unless the temp gets over 85-86deg.Also remember that the hotter the water is,the harder it is to mix oxegen into it. So an extra powerhead should also be aimed at the surface for more surface aggitation.
