Ok guys I have an ammonia spike going on. The ammonia is at 1.0 and the phosphates are at .5 to 1.0. Nitrites and Nitrates are not registering at least not yet.Calcium is around 450. Have I throw myself in a cycle here? Should I wait it out and not do a water change because of the Phosphates? The only thing is this tank has my Seahorses and come corals in it. I did add some new LR and the corals are new .....long story not going in to that.
Do I wait it out?
Thanks,
Robyn:mad:

I agree. Uncured lr will definately trip off a new or mini-cycle. I'd do some water changes and try using Kent's detox to get through the cycle.

what do you have filtering the tank? if you can, i would reccommend runnig to the lfs, and picking up a poly-filter, and place it somewhere in your filter where water can flow over it. this will pull out much of the ammonia/trite/trate/as well as the phosphates. i would then agree with the others to do a partial water cahnge and see what happens. poly filter, water change, test water, dependign on results, do another water change. it was most definately the ujncured live rock(was this from that tank we were talking about?) i dont think your horses will experience any ill efects, and everything should be allright because your levels are still fairly low!
good luck

yep, water changes, and keep on them
The seahorses need it, as well as some of the corals may not be able to survive a spike like that either.

well guys thanks for theinfo. I was gonna do a water change but was hestitant because Ammonia and Phosphates go hand in hand. Usually if one is high the other is close and doing a water change without letting the water sit for at 24 hours will be high in phosphates. That is why I was waiting for some of your responses.
Yes Jon this is the tank we were talking about, the one I had to tare down because of the restaurant closing. The rock was cured LR so maybe there was minimal die off and things won't get to bad.
OH well Thanks guys!!!! I would move my Seahorses to my 75 gallon but damn its in Hypo right now. I dont want to lose my corals but will not be heart broken if I do as they were adopted, now my Seahorse are my babies as I have nursed 4 of them back to good health. I guess I will do a water change and watch it for 24 to 48 hours and see how they do. They do not appear to be stressed.
Thanks again,
Robyn

sounds like just a little mini-cycle. Seriously, if it is just a minor bump, do your water change and try the Kent's ammonia detox. It is definately not for cycling new tanks etc.. But is good for occasional bumps because of minimal lr die-off or a death in the tank.
