if i were you i would get around 1.5- 2 inches of sand unless you are planning on getting a jawfish you should get 3+ inches of sand..
to figure out how much sand this is just go to the live rock live sand section on the left of the page and there is a live sand calculator all you do is plug in the dimensions of your tanks width and length and how many inches u would like and it does the rest!

How many pounds of sand should I have for a 29 gallon tank? Or how many inches of sand does everyone have?
I have 40lbs of LS in my 29gal tank. It gave me about 3in. give or take around the tank. I also have 50lbs+ of LR though. I believe the absolute minimum you should get would be 30-40lbs.

amount will vary some because of grain sizes but in general if you are going shallow 1-2 inches and a DSB of *I suggest 4 or more inches the in betwwen ares of 2-4 inches is a bad area to be in and is considered a danger zone because below a certain level it gathers toxens that will release back into the tank if disturbed. if you click on the left menu to the live rock and sand page there is a sand calculator there to see about how much is needed.
