Sand bed queston?

Hello all.
I have a question on which sand bed to use. I was wondering what are the pros and cons on dsb verses shallow sand beds and what are there depths. I have a 20 gallon refugium with 10 lbs of sand currently in that. Thanks everyone!

My neighbor HAD a queen trigger in his 125, It got spooked and knocked over a rock, the rock cracked the bottom of the tank and drained the whole tank killing his trigger

. This is one reason why you should have a dsb.

The rock should have been placed on the bottom with the sand placed around it. Welcome to the boards scuba!!! The reasons for a DSB, which is 5+ inches of sand VS a SSB, which is 2-3" all has to do with biolgical filtration.
