i have a 55gal that i have had set up for about two month now i have two tangs in there now i also have cc down insted of sand my local pet store told me to use cc inted of live sand because cc is better for beginers and live sand you have to watch you ph now i want to use live sand can i just take out the cc and add sand?? or how do you do this??

Now don't trust me on this because I'm still learning, but I think that if you add LS, your tank will have to cycle. I want to add some more to my sand bed to get a DSB, but don't know how to go around doing it without screwing with the reef.

What you can do is take out the CC and put it in used panty hose or other fine mesh bag and keep it in the water. Next put in your live sand and put the bags of cc on top of the sand so the good bacteria can spread. Theoreticly though if it is good live sand you will not need to do this but some do it anyway to be safe.

I think that if you add live sand to your tank you will be good to go from the start. I would take all the cc out and then add the live sand. The cc is live now so adding live sand should not make a difference. Do you have lr in the tank. Also what are you running for a filter.
