sand burrowing creatures uh oh

is it bad to have snails (about 3/4)inch that burrow down about 1/2 inch in your live sand bed? or sand sifting stars that move more than the surface sand? i have a 4 inch sand bed. i was reading a article i got from a thread on the boards here by a doctor PHD in marine biology. titled DEEP SAND BEDS. he states that NO burrowing creatures are good for it. forget gobies!!!! any thoughts on what i should do with my small snails that i actually got from SWF as part of a clean up crew.?thanks

the critters that turn over the top layer of sand are good hey help keep it clean but with a dsb the deep burrowers are the ones you dont want. because they can disturb the anerobic zones and realeas the toxins in the tank. linkia and brittle stars, nassarious snails, conchs, and spagetti worms help keep the top layer clean and do not bother the deeper levels.
