I have a 46 bow right now with 2 coral cats, algae blenny, jawfish, dottyback, firefish. I also will probably be getting a small watchman goby this weekend, a gold one but anyways...I want to add a little section of sand in the tank, I have CC now. Can I put in like a small area of LS in the tank. Has anyone down that? Id like to kinda keep the two areas seperated, is there a way to do that?

id say the cc and ls would mix no matter how you do it. its kinda one of those all or nothin things. eventually the sand will be on bottom and the cc will be on top.

Try using fiberglass screening to separate the two substrates...fiberglass not metal.

Your new gobie will soon have it mixed up.I would also suggest doing a total change.I made the mistake of not gettin all of my CC out,and now the little bit I left in has mixed with the sand and looks terrible. Now I have to figure a way to sift the sand to remove it..BUMMER,more work...

How would the watchman goby do with CC substrate? Anyone ever try that? Would he sift through the coral at all? Also would the blenny and goby be alright together?

I just switched from CC to LS and trust me, you and you fish will like the LS better. It just seems more eye apealing and the fish have an easier time moving it around if the burrow.

A watchman goby will not shift the cc. I have crushed shells on the bottom of my tank, but plan on switching to ls real soon. Anyways I have a yellow watchman goby, and he does not shift, he usually hides in his hole and pops his head out at feeding time to get some food. He is very cute, I just wish I saw him a little more.
