sand from fw in sw tank

i've got some softdown from a freshwater tank. can i use it in a sw tank?

I've heard ofpeople using rock from freshwater tanks so I think it would work. You would have some die off and go through a cycle but as long as you don't have any fish yet it should be fine.

just get some new sand ...that way you don't have to worrry about it. I would also think the fw sand has alot of fish waste and other things in it that you could.nt get out even with a good wash. You can't get cheap when dealing with saltwater .. I have learn the hard way!
