I just got my 55 gal tank and decided to use the 3/4 HD sand and 1/4 of live sand for the "seeding effect." But i think i got the wrong sand from HD. I got the play sand used for playgrounds. So what's happening now is that it just clouds my tank with sand dust. It looks like crap. I running a filter right on it but it doesn't seem to work very well with the dust. WHAT SHOULD I DO? I don't really want to start over again.

how long ago did you put your sand in the tank?? did you just dump it in with the tank full or put it in before you added water?? Also did you rinse it first?? Depending on the circumstances it can take a week or more for the cloud to settle.

A couple things to try,,,#1 cut down on the circulation in the tank. This will give the cloud a better chance to settle.#2,get a micron/polishing filter .Most local fish stores will rent you one for a day or two. This will clear the water quickly...Also,was the sand you bought called "Southdown Tropical Play Sand"??? If not,you probably DID get the wrong stuff. But the worse that can happen is a brown algae bloom from hell.Or if the sand is too fine,it could pack down and be more like a cement bed than a deep sand bed...

Thanks for the info. I did put the sand in the tank first then added the water and yes i did rinse it, but i should have done it longer. I guess what's most important is that will the dust effect the fish's health?
