I am setting up a new 75 gal. I was wondering...after reading countless articles etc...does anyone have any advice on if you should put the rock down first then the sand?? I have read if you do the rock on top of the sand, you create dead spaces that are not good for the tank as a whole. But! putting the rock in first is much more of a hassle..any opinions?? ***)

You are better off putting the rock in first. The reason is that the rock will be sure to be on the bottom of the tank and not on the sand. Having the rock securely on the bottom of the tank protects you from having your rock fall over in case of the rock being undermined, either by waterflow or possibly a fish such as an engineer goby.

Exactly my same thoughts.
