sand shifting star

just got my new SSS. hes doing really good goes all over the tank even found him on the glass this morning (is that normal?)
i was wondering if i can feed him some shrimp or something just for the heck of it
and if he should only stay in the sand or is it normal for him to come out onto the glass like he did

mine comes out onto the glass a little but mostly stays in the sand and comes out at night.
