You have to be careful with these guys... they'll consume all the life in the sandbed, and end up starving to death months down the road. :D

Yeah, I agree, a 30 gallon tank is too small for one of those stars. I really would take it back or exchange it. It won't last too long in a small tank.

YOu can try to spot feed it...meaty stuff like shrimp, squid...see if it is attracted to it. But unfortunately it may not be. If not, I strongly encourage you to return it, as it most likely will starve to death in your tank after consuming good little critters in the sand. Must emphasize that they do not eat algae or red slime, which is why they are often purchased...nor is it likely that they eat much detritus. If they did, it is unlikely so many would die in tanks.
