Sand sifting starfish

I just got a starfish today and one of my grabs already took a chunk off him. I keep pulling him away but the starfish keeps going back to him. Will the starfish heal and grow back?

I am afraid this is a poor choice for a seastar. Most will not survive long term (over a year) in any but very large tanks. In smaller tanks they will starve sooner.
What are your water parameters?
They are particularly sensitive to water parameters and often suffer osmotic shock. So that is critical to have in order to have any chance of survival.

Also, on top of being a difficult star to keep, acclimation is very critical. How did you acclimate this star and for how long?
