How much live sand do I need...(pounds per gallon?) And is live sand really help? I'm talking a FOWLR tank.

It depends entirely on what type of system and filtration you plan on setting up. A deep sand bed [DSB], for instance, will require min 4-6" of sand on bottom, which will amt to a lot of sand. However, the DSB is a major component of such a system's filtration. If you are going to rely on Wet-Dry or Ecosystem, etc., then the need for sand in tank drops significantly.

the ratio connot be figured out as pounds per gallon, it is based on your tanks dimensions(l x w), and desired depth, if you search around on this forum, someone has posted a sand bed calculator which may help alot
