Sand?

I was wondering if i could add more sand to my tank after it is already established for 6 months. My current sand bed is 1 1/2" deep i feel it should be deeper I have a 46gal bowfront.

yep i would go 3-4 imo just add it slow as not to make a big dust cloud and you can pour it down pvc for control

Sure, just rinse it very well and when you think you have rinsed it enough.....then rinse it some more and you good to go....

does it have to be live sand?

no but it does have to pass the vinager test see if it fizzes then it is good somebody correct me on that if i am wrong i buy mine at the lfs
