Sand ?

I am starting up a mantis shrimp tank and I need live sand. I have a bucket of it in the cellar. It has been sitting in the bucket for 3 weeks with 4 cleaner clams in it. It has also had about 2 inches of saltwater over it. My ? is, can I use it?

Smell it...If it has a rotten ordor then no don't use it, but otherwise it will be fine. If the clams are alive most likely so is the sand.
