Santa's Fish List

Im trying to figure out what kind of fish I should get. I need to know which fish are best for a new tank. It's been cycled and I have a Yellow Tang in it already. I've checked my water levels daily for the last four days. Everything is OK but the ammonia is just above zero. I wont buy any fish untill this weekend but I want people to rate each of the fish below 1-10 ten being the hardiest.
Flame Angel= FA
Blue Tang= BT
Lawnmower Blennie= LB
Watchman Goby= WG
Jawfish (cant think of which one)= JF
Percula Clown= PC
Also I was thinking about getting a flame scallop any suggestions.

I hope you cycled your tank for more than four days. Assuming this is the case, any of your choices are pretty hardy, execpt for the tang. Besides you probably wouldn't want to put two tangs in only a 60 gallon tank.

The tank was cycled before I added any fish. Ive been checking the water everyday since I added the fish. I also have been watching the fish itself. Looking for heavy breathing and strange behavior. Im just trying to make sure that everything is OK. The tang isnt the hardiest of fish but im not using him to cycle. I wanted to ask about the comment on putting two tangs together. Is it because they'll fight or is it because there both active swimmers, or are they just too big.

I agree with the choice of a six line wrasse and hawkfish..Stay away from the angel and jawfish for a good while..Angels can be very finicky like their freshwater counterparts. If you choose one I would suggest a Coral beauty instead. Buy a couple at a time and let them acclimate for a few weeks. Better to practice patience than to spend hords of mmoney replacing dead fish!!!! Happy holidays and enjoy your tank. :D

I forgot to mention the tangs...With all of the tangs that I keep I find that similar shahped tangs seem to be more agressive towards each other than say a blue hippo and yellow tang. The hippo I consider more of a surgeon fish. But they are partial to ich and like to lie on their sides under rocks a lot. Stick with the one tang as he will be one of the larger fish in your tank and the dominant one no doubt.

If I were you I'd start out with a couple damsels.....if your sure that you tank has completely started, I would not go with a Flame Angel at first....these fish are always best if they are the last fish introduced. I would maybe try your Blennie.
Later!

Two tangs in a 60 is a no go for all the reasons:, need lot's of swimming space, will fight if crowded, etc. One yellow tang in a 60 is already pushng it but probably doable. Flamehawk is always great under almost any conditions.Flame angel shouls also do finr after the tank has been up and running well for at least 5-6 months.

The fish I would add next would be one or two percula clowns, if you want a pair of them. They are probably the hardiest fish on your list. I have a lawnmower as well and I think you should wait a little while on him. If you want a flame wait. Don't make the same mistake I did and get the Coral Beauty because it's hardier. I thought I could have both, so you should wait for the flame a little bit longer if you want it instead of a coral beauty. CBs are great fish tough.

Im thinking about the coral beauty. I might end up getting one of them. They are pretty fish. I really wanted a blue tang. Someone posted that the blue hippo tang would be fine in the tank. That is the fish that I wanted. There also called a blue tang. Its hard to get over this fish because its one of my favorites. My fiance wanted the Yellow tang. I'll buy one fish a week if my tank allows it. The Flame angel will be the last fish. If I get a coral beauty I'll drop the blue hippo tang.

don't rush the fish purchases. I know this is hard but let each one aclimate for 2 or three weeks. When I stock any tank I might buy 2 or 3 depending on tank size and let it go for a month. Overcrowding can also be dangerous for your fish. I have a blue and purple tang together now and they don't bother each other. My earlier post said that the two different types of tangs don't usually fight but that is just in my experience. The Coral and Flame Angel will not work together in a tank your size.
A yellow headed gobie is a good choice too as he will sift your sand....

When I said wait if you want the flame angel I thought you realized that dwarf angels will kill each other in that size of a tank, so will the tangs. With the tangs the ich from having two in a 60 gal will also kill the rest of your tank, or cause you a real big headache. Coral beauties are more hardy, but if you want the flame wait a little bit longer. You may want to ice the blue tang and get a smaller fish. A six line would be great. A flame hawk would work as well. If you want to have a bigger fish you should get one of the smaller species of butterflies, and that would be pushing it.

the hippo is not a blue tang. THe Blue tang is an Atlantic fish. I was really confused about the ammonia as well. It is the intial waste, that turns into nitrites and then nitrates. How long did you cycle your tank? and what kind of lights and filtration do you have on it?
I love CB's but your tank needs to be established first. Jawfish are great, but the same thing applies. One tang is enough for a tank your size, they grow very fast and EXTREAMELY ick prone. someone on here once said they are the canaries of the reef world. It is a great qoute and quite true.
if you want to do reef butterflies are not fish that you should consider. but for a FO they are great fish.
A Saltwater tank is a thing of time. I as well stress one month in between fish. It was save you money on dead fish. And save the little fish their lives.

With those fish I would put the jawfish in first to get it established before the other fish,Jawfish are great fish for a community, the yellow heads are cheap and really fun to watch. Then the Blenny, then goby, then percula, then flame Angel.Forget about the blue tang.

The water test that I did showed zero on the nitrites and the nitrates. The PH is between 8.0 and 8.2. Last night when I checked the ammonias they were at zero. Before I added any fish I made sure that the levels were all good. The only reason I've been checking on the water everyday is because I knew that It was early to add a tang and I wanted to make sure that everything stays ok. I think that the only reason why the ammonias even showed up is because I added the tang. Im thinking about adding the jawfish this weekend. Im not sure.
