i had two scarlet hermits. well now i have one in a shell and one dead carcas right by that. did 1 of my scarlets kill the other? i didnt know when to add more shells. ive on had them for about a week. could he have killed him for his shell, or was he probably already dead and my other hermit just cleaning up? is it safe to add more hermits and do i probably need to put some bigger shells in there?

Your hermit could have killed the other one if they were fighting over a shell. I have never seen any of my hermits act aggressivley towards each other, on the other hand I have about 30 shells in the tank. You should be able to add more, but just make sure you put some more shells in. You would be surprised on how often they like to change shells.

Just a thought but are you sure that it is a dead carcus? is the shell empty? It could very well be the molt of one of the hermits. Double check, just in case.

I saw one of my hermits pull hermit parts from another shell. I didn't know if the hermit in the shell died or if they fought and one got killed. I am guessing they fought. ;)

hermits molt? that could deffinitly be it. the reason i thought one killed the other was because there was one hermit in the shell and another thing that looked like a dead carcass right beside the shell. i had 2 hermits, but i have only seen them one at a time, never been able to see both at the same time. i figured either one was dead somewhere or i keep seeing different ones or something. so i figured maybe this was a carcass. i didnt know they molted. i couldnt find an empty shell either. im gonna go get some more shells tomorrow. thanks for all the help.

I had the same thing happen when I added hermits to my tank I caught the very end of one of them killing the other for his shell, You can add more just put some shells in the tank and make them diferent sizes. Good Luck
