Scarlet hermits die alot?

Scarlet hermits are territorial. In a smaller tank (like a 55), and even in larger tanks if you have too many, they will kill each other in order to establish a territory. You are much better served to only have one or two scarlet hermits and the rest mexican red-legged hermit crabs. Mexican red-legs are nonterritorial. HtH
