this information I picked up from fishindex for species identification.no only can a fish have more than common name they can also have more than one scientific name.some of these more common scientic names also refer to not only the particar fish discription but family member of the genous from another regeon. example below.I did this searching to prove that just because you find a different scientific name for a fish doesnt mean its not the same species of fish.just like some fish have more than one common name included.one very good explanation of why identifying is so difficult for the hobbiest
