Just a quick question, what should I feed my scooter blenny. I know that they eat microfauna from the live rock but should I also feed anything else?

Copepods Are little bug like creatures that live in our tanks. Provided we give them the proper enviroment to reproduce.

I see my blenny scooting around the bottom and looks like eating. I guess I have enough copepods in there for him then. I only have one blenny in my 55 gal.

ANything special to make sure the copepods have the right environment to reproduce?

The best place is a sump with a type of alage so they can reproduce in safety.
It may take them a while to starve to death. But without proper and enough of a food source they eventually will die. Most of these guys eat a few hundred pods in a single day.

Do you have a refugium? If not you could always put a clump of chaeto in the corner of your tank. I would probably buy a couple bags of live pods at your lfs too, just to make sure the little guy will have a fighting chance. How long has the tank been set-up?

Chaeto and some other live plants are my nuext purchase. The tank has been running for 3 months. He seems to be feeding on stuff on the bottom of the tank. I will check with my lfs for some pods in the mean time. Thanks for the info.

I don't want to sound stupid but if I see him scooting around on the bottom and rocks picking stuff up with his mouth am I to assume that he is finding pods?

I would think so. However being that your tank has only been set-up for 3 months I wouldn't think there are enough in there to sustain him long term, but if you add some bags of pods and some macro-algae for them to hide in it should really help.

You got it. I will check on those things for him in the next few days. Thanks for the help.

Not a problem, I love scooter blennies especially the red ones. Good luck, sounds like you are gonna do your best to take good care of him.

I am trying. I just added him and another clown and my larger clown is not loving the small one yet. Hopefully they will get along soon.
