Scooter Blennies

i believe they are about the same, but i have been my blenny alive, i have to hand feed my scooter every other day mysis shrimp on a stick, very hard since the shrimps LOVE to steal it... it hurts my back after im done... but i had my tank for about 5 months now and its doing well...... plus my tank is a 15, so basically the only thing i would worry about is feeding and how you are going to feed it, because depending on the size tank there wont be much pods left after a few days....

let me tell you my friend luke's aka "Lharm" lawnmower blennie is a PIG and would eat plastic if you gave it to him but thats one blennie soo.......

i forgot to add this, make you ask your lfs to feed the blenny brine or what ever it feeds it to make sure it eats, if it doesnt then, dont get it... yeah its a very annoying task to ask the guy because you know he/she doesnt want to do it, but its just to make sure the blenny will survive in your tank

I used a scooter as my first fish to get my tank started. It was a previously established tank. The only thing left was the filter media in the partition overflow box.I guess there were enough pods still alive in there to get things going again. My tank cycled in 3 weeks.I then added scooter, and he has been fine for a year now.He eats frozen brine just as vigorously as the other fish. Its funny to watch him try and chase it down because he can't catch it when it's free floating. His dorsal fin is bigger than a quarter now.

so you dont need a large pod population? because they eat mysis and brine? I would put it in my 20H if possible. I will have about 25 lbs of lr in there and a couple lbs of ls.

IMO, well even if you had a high pod count, the fish would still wipe it out sooner or later, resulting that you HAVE to feed it. Many people say put on in a established tank 6-12 month tank for mandrains but they will still wipe it out. Do you have refuge, thats where pods can grow safetly
i used to have a HUGE pod population, it just disapeared in 3 days... just dont depend on pods, and depend on feeding, also have to watch out with over feeding...

I have 2 scooter blennies and a rock blennie. There is no problem with them. The 2 do just scoot around the rocks and the only thing I have seen them eat is the brine shrimp I put in the tank.

I have a Mandarin in a 54 Gallon with 54 Lbs LR and 80 Lbs LS. All my LFS shops told me that I'd be OK ( even the ones who didnt stock Mandarins ). So far so good but its only been 6 weeks. I can see the little baby pods on the tank glass in front at night, and even watch her hunt them down sometimes ( she pounces on them like a cat ). Other than that I can't feed her, but will be trying a Refugium after the new year.
On another note, I have a Lawnmower Blenny ( big guy ) as well. He's always eating algae on the glass and on the rocks - he's another fish that I cant feed. I wanted to make sure I didnt have a scotter blenny competing with my mandarin for pods - so I went the algae control route.

I have a small Mandarin ( with small circle markings on him,not sure what type he is,do you know?) He picks at my fake coral , but I can`t see if he is eating anything. Can you see pods? and what do they look like? I have had him for several months now and not sure if he gets enough food.He will eat a little brine if I can get it down to him ,but not much. What else can I try to feed him? Thanks crabbie

A friend of mine pick me up a "scooter blenny" which turned out to be a scooter dragonet. It will only eat what is in my rock and on my sand. I have had him about a month and am going to get him out and sell him or trade him in or something before he starves.

dragonites are scooters, try my method if brine approach wont work by frozen mysis shrimp get a wooden skewer (the one you use in bbqs) and feed it every 2 days, and you should be fine, also turn off the powerheads when feeding and turn it back on when done feeding, you can get a turkey baster and fill it up with brine/mysis and squirt it gently near the scooter
