"Screening method" used with MH acclimation?

Hello!
Could anyone explain, or give me a link to explain this screening method I've heard about when acclimating your tank to MH lights? I have a 150w 14k MH going on a (approx) 25 gal tank (It's going from just having 2 10,000k w T5's and 2 actinic). Also, are there any other tips/hints to this? It's a clamp on, so lowering the light every so often isn't really an option. But, I'm aware of the shorter photo period, would this be like 20 min a day for a week and going up from there? Thanks in advance for any help/input!

shorter photoperiod would be about 3 hours a day for 2 weeks. then adding 30 mins every week until you reach what you want.
screen method is simple
get some window screen and put 4 layers of window screen on top of the tank. every 5-7 days, remove one layer
