Scripps Institute

I was in the San Diego area last Spring Break, and I visited Escondido, San Diego, La Jolla, and the like, and while I was there, I was amazed with the beauty of the cities and their dedication to cleanliness and organization. And, being a SW enthusiast, my favorite place to visit was Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institute, and was hoping to attend Scripps once I finish High School. So I was wondering if anyone has been to Birch or Scripps, and what your thoughts were. (Too small of a Shark Exhibit) Also, if anyone has any information about applying to Scripps and/or some of the institution's history, please send it my way.
PS I also visited Hollywood, Beverly Hills, LA, and that area, but wasn't too impressed with anything other than the sheer size of LA and the houses of Hollywood and Beverly Hills.

Scripps would be almost impossible to get into right out of high school, but then again anything is worth a try right? I had a friend apply after his BS in Marine Science. He kept a 4.0 GPA and did TONs of research at local marine labs and made connections that way. So anotherwords he proved himself to them before evening applying.... and got in... he is now working on his Doctorate in shark studies (shark studies are big out there!) I also had a professor that got his masters from there and loved it.
Just know and accept the fact that you have to be more than a SW enthusiast to get in there, you have to have basic and advanced knowledge with marine chemistry, physics, geology, and biology before any marine science school will look your way. If it something you really think you would like start your way at the bottom (gift store, scuba cleaning tanks, etc) and then while your working on your BS you can work your way up the job ladder too! I am definitly not trying to discourage you but just being truthful about how tough it is to get in to MS Grad Schools. If you would like to know anything else or have any other questions about jobs in the Marine Science field feel free to contact me at my email at : Jendwyer3@aol.com
Good luck with anything you do!
