I dont own one myself but I heard that after a while, they need to get cleaned. Running them in vinegar for a bit should clean em out.

how exactly would i 'run it in vinegar', it needs a pump to push it...Would soaking it help? or will the flap or whatever remain closed?

Good luck!
Oh, just figure its worth a mention...
I heard that there are a certain type of lawn sprinklers that can be used to create "wave effects" also. I dont remember what kind but there are ones that are pop-top style and not-pop-top style. Something to keep an eye out for a future DIY project if youre up to it (or if your SCWD is shot). From what I hear, the only metal in them is some spring that can be pulled out. Each head should only cost a buck or two, too.

Try soaking in vinagar for an hour or so then rinse, and "fill" with water...
Hold a finger over one outlet and blow in the other "backflushing" the unit...
Then refill and backflush the other output...
Often that will get a small particle out of the gear works...
Occasional soaking/cleaning/maintence (just like pumps) will keep caco3 from building up...
When they are opperating properly you should be able to blow air through the "inlet" and hear the gears "spinning" or whirring...
If it "rattles" it's junk...
I have two running (a bit longer than 6 months) but I do run high flow through them...
Also a sponge or at least a fine screen will keep most "jamming" junk out of them...
Nice thing about SCWDs is at $35 a pop you can change them out every 6 months or so for a couple years and still come in cheaper than a Sea Swirl...

Unfortunately the place I read about it is down due to the hurricane. Otherwise I'd post some details. It seemed rather simple, just dissasemble the thing and take extra parts out. Just wish I could name the "thing" and the "extra parts". :notsure:
