I just bought a bubble tip anomone that proceeded to explore my tank and got sucked up into my filter. Question, how do I stop them from scooting around my tank? Or better yet, is there an attachment for my filter(fluval canister) to cover it so this does not happen again?
LOLOL..
Im not LOL at you but I fought with an anenome once... I have a fluval too.. I tied a white mesh media bag around the intake untill he found his spot. OR you could glue him to a rock, I would just let him find his spot though... mine ended up UNDER a rock,, gosh! NOT where I would have wanted him..
I feel your pain...
How is the intake located?
Although they can climb the glass they don't very often do it. I would try to get the intake a safe distance away from any rocks or the bottom of the tank.
There is some hobby plastic grid that is fine grid stuff that you could make a cylinder out of that might help. I used the stuff of for an overflow to stop nudibranches from getting in.
Perhaps even a sponge cover.

It indeed sounds like your intake is too close to the rocks, floor, whatever... Get it several inches away from anything, and you wont have to worry so much about anything getting sucked up. And I would recomend the sponge cover as well.
If I raise the intake higher will the filter still work properly? Will it cause the filter to work harder due to how water is siphoned? Or when I clean the filter, will the water siphon correctly back into the cansiter?
the best thing i found for this was at walmart. go to the fabric/crafts department and they have a plastic mesh for crafts, they were only about 35 cents and you can cut them to whatever length u need.

I raised my intake on my( by cutting the tubbing 3") fluval & installed a sponge kit
because I had the same problem.
I had no problems with the filter afterwords. It is a little more difficult to siphon sometimes but worth it.
If you raise it too much and you find it does not work properly you can always by a new tube which is inexpensive.
Good Luck.
