So when i finnally have my tank cycled i was thinking about getting a small sea cucumber. Are they toxic? What species do i need to avoid?

That question has been debated joe. Technically, no, most of them are not, however there are numerous stories (some you can research here on these boards) of where a cucumber released toxins when they were injured or died. One story I read on here was about an entire tank that got nuked. Supposedly, its the more colorful one's, such as the pinks, that have the ability to do this, but that is not a fact, and there is no way to know for sure which one's can and which one's cannot do this. I used to have one myself, but after reading some of these horror stories, I decided that I had too much invested in other livestock in my tank, that I just couldn't take the risk, so I traded him in.
So there's no clear cut answer for you, as you will have to just research it and decide for yourself.

There are also things to consider like filter feeder or sand sifter...if sand sifter do you have the right substrate and is it mature enough. If a filter feeder do you have pumps protected and feed the appropriate food. If your tank is small this can overwhelm the system.
Basically the sea apples are the most notorious for this. Others are less toxic, but still some risk. I mean nothing that large that is dead in the tank is good. But I have had a pink cuke die without killing anything, and I reckon others have.
I would say sand sifters are the least risky overall, but are not as cool.
