I have 4 sea horses in my tank. 2 are Sunbursts (oranges) and 2 Mustangs (brown) 1 of the Mustangs turned grey to white. They change colors when they are moody. It all depends on what color corals and hitching posts you have in your tank...If you have more questions on seahorses my e-mail address is: Sam8649@Netscape.net.
It has nothing to do with lighting.

B,
I am kinda of interested in starting a seahorse tank, can you give me some basic info, such as what size tank do you have, how much did the equipment cost, some stuff like that. I've done some research on sea horses, and I think they are very interesting, and I know about how they are getting wiped out in the wild, I would hate to see these little guys get extinct. I would actually be interested in breeding them as well.
Any info would help, I do have about 3 years of keeping SW fish, and about 5 with freshwater.
Thanks much

Hi. I have a seahorse tank that can be seen in my link in my sig. It is a small tank and has been very successful.
I have found that if you are a big fan of the spectacular color - get some gorgonians and sponges as the seahorses seem to "mimic" their surroundings. If you can add some caulerpa for them to hang out = they can retain their colors - whether they be the wild Brazillian red & oranges or the Ocean Riders.
Seahorses are a lot of fun to keep - can be a little frustrating and delicate - but very rewarding to watch - especially when they breed.....nothing like seeing 50 little "pseudo-adults" swimming around the tank.
If I can help any seahorse interested folks in any way......pls ask. I know this board can be a little psycho about posting links to different boards - I'm pretty sure there is a seahorse

anization that has a bulletin board solely w/ seahorses as the topic.

I'm not sure about the effects of lighting, but I can vouch for the effects of Coulerpa. My Yellow Seahorse is bright and beautiful in my 58 gallon. I've had it over a year, initially in a 20 gallon with a pair of clowns. It's currently in a 58 gallon with the clowns, a Yellow Tang, a Royal Gramma and a small Majestic Angel. I monitor things closely, preparing to sieze the opportinity and establish a new tank at the slightest hint of anti-seahorse aggression, but everybody has gotten along well for over 6 months (The Majestic is new... under 1 month). I believe the secret is the tons of caulerpa growing in the tank, along with the two refugiums attached. If, however, the Tang and Angel really start culling the Caulerpa, I may relocate the pony.
Hope this helps with the general Seahorse query... I'm sure it won't help the lighting one.
