SeaClone 100 Skimmer

Hey all,
I just got the Seaclone 100 and it's in my tank and running. How do I know how much air intake I should have it on to provide maximum efficiency.. Some may think the seaclone is not the best but I think it will do well on my 38 gallon.

Doesn't it say in the instruction manual something about letting the water level come up to the bottom of the collection cup tube. I had one but I forget now.

Well when I seal off all the air, the water level raises to the top of the thing and the bottom of the collection cup. But i just got it today and I'm not gettin any foam. My tank is established so I was wondering what the break-in period does/

I have had one for about 6 months.
Sometimes it works sometimes it does not.
I mess with the air intake a lot, water level in the tank, cleaning it.
Not much luck.
I am begining to think in depends on the phases of the moon.

That's no fun.. There must be some trick to it.. I read about the modifications you can make to it.. But I don't wanna break it trying them.

I have a seaclone 100 on a 55gal. I guess that I'm one of the few that likes it. It's been running about 3 months now and is doing a good job. I is removing quite a bit of "stuff" from the water. I adjusted the air intake to approx. 1 1/2 turns out from the closed position. The only thing that I had to watch for was the micro bubbles returning from the skimmer to the tank. That was corrected by turning in the air intake valve by micro adjustments until the micro bubbles stopped. Wait a few minutes after each adj. to give it a chance to make the adjustment. I empty the collection every day or two. For the money, it seems to be working ok for me. I'm sure there are better ones on the market , but as a starter it's just fine.

I have one - the only thing with mine is the where the intake tube hits the chamber leaks (poor design). I had to play with it for a while to get it to stop. Mine broke in nicely in a few days and produces well...

After the break-in, does the foam start coming up the collection cup?
Cus I just put mine in yesterday, and I see no foam when I keep the small bubbles out of my tank.

Yes, after a few days, given that the skimmer is properly adjusted, it will produce foam. Francis Knudsen has it right; if you SLOWLY adjust the air intake, allowing at least several minutes between adjustments, you should get it right. Good luck.

I've had one of these skimmers for a year or so. Right now it's on my 10. For the leaking, you're working with a simple compression/O ring set up. The surface that touches the O ring anywhere must be VERY clean. Then use a liquid silicone lube on the O ring. The skimmer isn't the best but for small tanks and for the $ I think it's one of the best in it's price range.
To start this thing I agree with what Francis said. I ran mine for 2 days with no air to "break it in". Then I just started opening the air up just so the little tornado thing is nice & tight and no micro bubbles are going out. I have to tweak mine once a week or so.
Normally nothing is produced for the first few days.
Bottom line IMO it's not a great skimmer overall, but it's one of the best $60 skimmers out there.

Mine is on a 46 gal that I use as sort of a holding /q tank.
I recently added a fish that has some white stuff on it, ick or some fungal thing, I am no expert but anyway I used some melilfex medicine for the first time. After I added it I went to rinse out the cup I had the med in and as I rinsed it out foamed some.
I thought 'I better turn off the skimmer'
When I got there the cup was full of white foam and it was comming out the hole in the cap. So I guess it does work if there is crap in the water.
