Seaclone owners help

I am trying to set-up my seaclone skimmer in my sump. As those of you know with seaclones they suggest that the pump is about 2-3" below the water line and not more. I have 2 problems
1. I can't get the suction cups to stick to the plastics sides. What did you all do?
2. I could set the pump and skimmer on top of something inside the sump ( I remember someone posting a picture of this) but would be steady enough to hold the weight?
Any ideas on how to do this would be appreciated. I may just have to break down and buy a new one.
Thanks-
Jeremy

I dont have a sump so I cant speak from experience. I still have my instructions and I think the 3 inches applies to the in-tank set up. You dont need the j tube for in-sump set up. You can attach the pump directly to the main chamber.Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I just assumed that the same would hold true for the sump model. You know what they say about assuming...
Anyone else have any experience on this?
Thanks-

I had one and used it as a HOB. You may still need the pump to be 2-3" under water so that you get the correct amount air/water ratio. Not really sure though.

I have mine setup free standing in the sump, under 8' of water, and have REMOVED the pre-filter, as it restricted flow.
It does operate better w/ less water, but it's a price we have to pay for attempting to save $50 on what is quite possibly the single most important piece of equipment in the system!
My skimmer functions fine, but I will definately be upgrading in the next few months, and saving this one for use as a backup.
