SEACLONE... pros and cons

i am thinking about getting a seaclone skimmer from my 55 gallon ( i know, i know, its crap...but i heard it works well on 55g) and was wanting to know you thoughts... and if any, tell about the modification i could do to it. thanx <img src="graemlins//evilwhorn.gif" border="0" alt="[Evil Horn]" />

Is it a new or old. In the older models the inside tube is too long and you need to trim it. In the new models it has already been done. I think that skimmer (even though I don't like em) would be fine on your 55 gallon. I had to constantly adjust mine.

I have one on my 55 and I am very happy with it. It is a newer model and did not require the modification mentioned in the above post.

another easy mod is to remove the prefilter sponge. you can leave it, but you have to clean it about every ten days. hth.
 
How can you tell the difference between the old and the new at the store... thinking of buying it from PetSmart <img src="graemlins//freak.gif" border="0" alt="[freak]" />

Open the box and check the center riser tube. If the tube extends almost to the top of the skimmer then put it back on the shelf, it is an older model.
If the tube is only about 3 inches long it is a newer model.
