Seaclone transformed into Fluidized bed?

Hey ok i got a spare seaclone 100 sitting here, and since i no longer have a saltwater tank, or the collection cup to the seaclone, could i transform it into a fluidized bed filter by take out the middle pipe which creates the tornado effect and place a media bag full of sand in there, not totally packed but loosely. Could this work well?

have you tried this yet? have you researched fluidized bed filter to see how water is passed throught the chamber? could put to much back pressure on the pump and burn out
