SeaClone

The tank I just bought came with a SeaClone skimmer, it's running off of a maxi-jet 1200 and the folks that had it before me were using a power head foam filter on the intake, is this necessary? It looks really obtrusive in the tank.
Thx

I would leave the foam filter on there because if you take it off you will get junk build up on the bottom of the skimmer.

Id keep it on too, dont want to get a fish sucked up there either....I have the same skimmer, do you have problems with salt crystalization in the air intake?

ntyanks, I have no problems I believe due to the fact that I clean the sponge and tube on a regular basis, about 2 times a month.

the foam filter comes with the seaclone when its bought new. it works as a sort of prefilter. i would leave it on just keep it clean for its best preformance.its great for keeping out all the big stuff so you dont get all clogged up.

I am a firm believer in pre filters for powerheads in a tank. There are to many chances for a fish to get sucked into the open area. I use them on UV's and on current moving powerheads (this also keeps the powerhead impellar area from getting gummed up).
