Seahorse Tank Build

Well - now that my 65 upgrade is 99% done I am starting to think ahead for the SH tank I want to set up. I have a 40 gallon long or a 36 gallon tall. I am leaning towards the 36 tall - I think the extra height might be better.
I was at our water store the other day and they had a used UV system for sale, it was a 2 gallon/minute unit which is about 120 GPH - which just arounf the rate I would be running. Now the only thing I was concerned with was the housing was stainless steel - would that be bad for the SH's.

I have never used one, so I cant tell you one way or the other, you might ask you know where.
Oh, by the way, yahhhhhhhhh
either tank would be fine. Are you going to run a sump with it???

Yes definately a sump, I am thinking of having an internal overflow that will take water in from the bottom as well. The sump will be another 30 gallon spare tank I have. And I will use my older Coral Life 125 in the sump see if it works better there.

the more i think about it, the 36 tall with a 30 sump would be a nice set up. Then you could use the 40 long as a grow out tank lol

I think you are right Teresa, the 40 gallon long could be partitioned off for different aged ponies.

OMG Gemmy my house is turning into a fish shop. As I sit in my dining room I have my 65 reef, 40B liontank, 20 gal long with a blue lobster and about 8 pearl danios. In my old office I have the 65 planted tank, along with a 20 gal with two cichlids and their babies, another 20 SW for QT empty of any new fish, them upstairs in my son's room a 55 goldfish tank, and a 25 livebearer tank, then in the spare room a 36 FW with a bunch of baby angles. The SH is going to be fun though.

IMO your ratio of salt to fresh water tanks is unacceptably skewed. You need to add a few more SW tanks to the mix to even things out. May I suggest, besides the SH tank, that you add a 20g biotope display for a breeding pair of jawfish, a 36g bowfront (with a tight lid!!) for an octopus, and perhaps a 120g FO tank for a few butterflyfish. That might even the playing field a little.
Naturally, I would never suggest THINNING OUT any freshwater tanks. That would just be absurd.

Heheheh, Oh, so WE"RE not social enuff for ya? I get it. (sniff...)
When I was running the full system, I had my 37g, my 110, a 12g and a 5.5 g running at the same time....and I thought *I* was bad! Now I see I'm just a rank amateur compared to some!
Hopefully when I make this move I'll be able to re-start the 110g tank. The seahorse tank is of course a requirement, and now that I have all the equipment the dragoneface pipefish tank is also definitely a GO. So I'll be up to three tanks, plus an occasional QT setup...I think that's enough for me. I bow to your aquatic prowess sir.
