Well in a well thought out attempt to beat my rich neighbor but inexperienced at saltwater fish keeping I decided to get a seahorse tank. I just got a nice tank with a beautiful painted backround and a nice bio wheel filter.
This weekend (or on wednesday as it is only a two day week
)I'll buy the remainder of the supplies. My tank is 10 gallons and I plan to get two or three seahorses by the holidays. Any help on this would be appreciated as I will finally be able to get a better tank then that annoying neighbor.

Please research on the seahorse forum. A ten gal is way to small for even one reg sized seahorse. Horses need a tall tank. They need 3x thier height. kuda and erectus can reach 6 to 7 inch so you would need a tank that is 18 to 21 inch tall, and room to roam. the smallest I would suggest is a 29 gal for one pair. a 40 gal for 3 or 4 horses not pairs.
Seahorse will not do well in a small nano tank.

Yes dwarfs would work, but they require newly hatched bbs three times a day, and must have a sterile tank. no live sand or live rock. just dead sand and base rock. You can not have anything that would introduce hydroids. They will kill dwarfs. also all intakes would have to be covered with sponges and or screen. these things are tiny.

Id just go what Teresa says, get a 25-30 gallon and make it seahorse-worthy. Youll get a ton more responses in the seahorse forums, might I suggest you try there? Im thinking of doing the same but dont have near the funds for it haha

IMO u should do tons of research before attempting this so that the poor horses do not suffer just so "u can have a better tank than ur annoying neighbor" That right there is all the reason NOT to set up a SH tank.
A 10g is much too small as Teresa mentioned unless u intend to dwarves. Please do ur research before getting any horses, they need an established tank and if u r just starting ur tank and intend to get horses by Christmas, you will be in for a lot of heartbreak. I am not trying to be mean, I just do not want to see or hear about the loss of more seahorses b/c of someones hasty moves

you could get dwarf seahorses. but seriously, i would consider taking atleast a month to research about what your about to do. don't just jump right in like oyu about did.
that can be deadly.
1-2+ months of research is wel worth a $60 dead seahorse.
i've spent 8 months researching and i JUST started my seahorse tank a few months ago with no horses yet.

How long have you been in the Saltwater hobby? If your still a newbi, I would suggest not keeping any kind of seahorses yet. I wanted to do a seahorse tank as well, but they need way to much care. Do LOTS AND LOTS of research like everyone els said before you start the tank.

I apologize for being blunt...but...SHAME ON YOU
How could you purchase ANYTHING just to spite your neighbor. Especially a animal that depends on you for it's health and care. A living creature is NOT and object or something to be paraded around as a novelty. If I were you I would reexamine your priorities.

I agree, seahorses have very specific needs, and you should really do a lot more research before even thinking about getting any.
You all said what wanted to say.

you want to spite your neighbor, throw a party or buy a porsche. Sorry a ten gallon tank isn't going to spite anyone.

Sorry for chewing your head off crabsrkewl. I can definiteley sympathize with you. Our neighbor has a obsession with their lawn...we don't. David hasn't spoken or even exknowledge our presence for over two years just because our lawn isn't manicured and perfect. His wife Debbie is very sweet and still chats with us.
Instead of trying to put together a tank by yourself, I'd have sprung the idea for a $1.00 donation from all the members
You'll be swimming in your 400 gallon tank in no time
